after the orphanage
Hello again,
One of the volunteers wanted to check her emails again, so I tagged along to check my emails and other things. The accomodation I'm staying at is so much better than the one I stayed before. The first one, which is located in Mount Lavinia, was a bit filthy. But, what can you do about it when you're staying in this country. The place I'm staying at now only has cold water, so I have a little bit of a sore throat today. I'm getting alittle worried though. There are massive flies and mosquitos everywhere, and I've been bitten many times where as the other volunteers had one or two =(. The ultrathon mosquito repellent, which the doctor from Mount Sinai recommended, is a piece of garbage. It only has 34% DEET repellent. Fortunately, I brought in a 100% DEET mosquito repellent, so I'm going to try on it tonight. Hope it works.
Breakfast at the guesthouse consist of 3 toasts and 1 banana for each volunteer. I realize that British are sort of picky fussy eaters. They don't eat much at all. They've been complaining about how much food the locals give them. But I'm thinking the total opposite. I'm starving here, 3 toasts is not enough for me. I need eggs, toasts, cereal...something more. I feel myself shrinking here. Guess I'm used to the big American food portions =(
For lunch, most of the volunteers head over to...KFC where there's air condition. We don't go over for the western food, the most important thing we cherish the most is air conditioning.
Dinner at the guesthouse consist of rice and curry or noodles and curry. I'm getting tired of curries. The worst is that the british volunteers hate spicy curries, so I'm force to eat bland curries with them. Maybe I should ask the cook to make it spicy for me. =P
You're probably thinking I'm complaining a lot. yeah I am. But I just need to get everything out in the open before I explode and treat the kids in a bad way.
Some of the kids are so cute. The young ones are so innocent but the older ones (who stayed at the orphange for a while ) are not so nice. They don't share things for one and they tend to hit each other a lot. There's a little boy about 2 or 3 years old, Sevenji, who's staying at the orphange because he lost his family from the tsumami. He's really sweet. One girl, Aniska has badly deformed feet caused from fire. Her parents died from the fire. She's been crawling on the floor ever since and always need to be picked up to get around. She's getting heavy so I'm planning to do morning walking exercise so that she won't be dependent. She's really smart. I'm sure she'll pick things up easily.
Well my 1 hour is almost up, going to head out soon.
I miss home so much. I miss the regular hours of working and doing my usual things. I'll get used to here soon..hopefully.
